Summer's Here - Get Your Outdoor Pool Summer-Ready!

The sun is shining, temperatures are rising, and it’s finally time to enjoy your outdoor pool! But before you dive in, now is the perfect opportunity to inspect, repair and repaint key areas to keep everything looking fresh and functioning at its best.

The warm weather helps to dry out any moisture that’s accumulated over the winter months, giving you the best possible surface to apply paint. However, take care - sudden thunderstorms can quickly ruin freshly applied coatings, especially water-based paints. Always check the weather forecast before starting work.

Summer is the ideal season for tackling larger outdoor projects such as:

• Swimming pool tanks & surrounds.
• External walls & roofing areas.
• Plant buildings & pool houses.

Heat & Paint: What You Need to Know.
With high temperatures, all paint types will dry more quickly - sometimes too quickly. To achieve the best finish and long-lasting results, follow these simple tips:

• Avoid painting in direct sunlight, especially on hot concrete, metal or tarmac.
• Paint early in the morning or later in the evening, ideally in shaded areas.
• Be aware of mud cracking, where the top layer dries too fast, trapping uncured paint beneath.

Do not over-thin your paint in hot weather. Warmer conditions naturally reduce paint viscosity, and further thinning can cause the paint to lose its “wet edge” and dry unevenly.

Check for Winter Damage Before You Begin.
If your pool or surrounding areas have been exposed to a wet or harsh winter, now is the time to inspect for freeze/thaw damage. Prolonged cold and damp can degrade surfaces like concrete, tarmac, and asphalt. Look out for:

• Cracks or delamination in concrete.
• Blown or broken asphalt or tarmac.
• Areas requiring cut-out and repair before painting.
